Berlin Niederkirchnerstrasse. The Martin-Gropius-Bau is one of my favourite buildings in Berlin, but doing a comparison shot from 1990 to 2018 is difficult because the trees now largely block the view, even in winter. I went to Berlin this year in mid-March specifically to get architectural shots with the trees bare, and I was pleased with some of the results. Not here though.

Berlin November 1990. Vendors selling DDR memorabilia have taken over the Friedrichstrasse Checkpoint site. The canopy over the transit area, built not very long before, is still there in the background left, though of course it will soon be demolished. Adverts for American cigarettes, and American musicals being staged at the Staatsoper underline the defeat of the communist state.
