Glienicker Brücke over the Havel river in 1990. Here the border from West Berlin is with the DDR, not East Berlin, so I, as a foreigner was not allowed to cross. The visa rules were different here. I did approach the guard and ask if I could cross, and he said, “Do you have a visa to enter my country?”. At least he didn’t shoot me.
